ATLAS.ti: Quality Software Developed in Germany

ATLAS.ti was first created as a research project of the Technical University Berlin in 1987. Since then, ATLAS.ti has taken a breathtaking development.

In 1993, Thomas Muhr released the first commercial version under the company name “Scientific Software Development,” now ATLAS.ti GmbH.

Mr. Muhr led the company for close to 20 years, seeing it grow continuously and garner an increasing share of the growing QDA software market.

Today, the program is sold and used around the world, with major organizations and corporate players among its enthusiastic users. The likes of Microsoft, the United Nations, the World Bank, Google, Boeing, and nearly every major university in the world rely on ATLAS.ti for their qualitative data analysis needs.

In 1999 Thomas Muhr brought the management consultant Jörg Hecker into the company. He took care of all business-relevant and strategic issues of the company, first as a consultant, later as COO.

In 2021, Jörg Hecker took over the management of ATLAS.ti as sole CEO.

Thomas Muhr continues to advise the company from then on as founder and shareholder with heart and soul.

A word about the technology the drives our software: When you buy an ATLAS.ti license, you automatically also buy yourself the commitment and dedication of our support staff. Unlike others, we do not sell separate “maintenance” and support packages–we consider these part of the software package, plain and simple.

You can always reach our dedicated and highly competent support staff via the ATLAS.ti Online Support Center. We even offer free telephone support worldwide. – Or write directly to [email protected].

ATLAS.ti is and has always been German engineering at its best: A combination of creativity and solid know-how that results in innovation and excellent craftsmanship that is second to none. Our software is based on an evolutionary-participatory development process and utilizes the latest and most advanced technology available. Our development policy is guided by a set of values that centrally feature interoperability and the use of non-propriatary (“open” ) standards (e.g., XML).

Can you tell that we are proud of our technology and the individuals who make it happen?:)

Home of ATLAS.ti: Deep in the Heart of Berlin

2016 saw the move to our new company headquarters in the heart of Berlin’s “City West:” With continuous growth in staff, sales, and ideas, we relocated to new premises. Still only a stone’s throw away from the Technical University, we are now located ever closer to what has been the center of old “West Berlin”–home of much of the city’s history, culture, commerce, and life for far more than 100 years.

We are optimistic to continue to thrive further in this stimulating environment.
