ATLAS.ti is proud to partner with the International Qualitative Research Network (IQRN) at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, and Inquiry Methodology at the Indiana University School of Education, to offer you the best of qualitative research methods and initiatives from around the world.
The objective of this study is to conceptualize dialogic validation in classroom interaction by identifying discursive patterns that elicit student contributions in classroom dialogue. Research in dialogic interaction can benefit researchers and practitioners in identifying discursive patterns that allow teachers to elicit students’ contributions to dialogue. The presenter pursued a systemic discourse analysis of English lessons at a Japanese university to identify concrete interactional moves to contribute to a framework for understanding dialogic validation. Transcripts of classroom interaction were coded for utterances of validation, while patterns of validating discourse were identified to point to validating elements in the teacher’s discourse.
This webinar can benefit both researchers interested in developing theories of dialogic interaction and practitioners using research to systematically inform pedagogical choices. In particular, the methodological discussion in this webinar aims to provide guidance in methods of discourse analysis and applications of such methods in ATLAS.ti to allow researchers to pursue their own systematic discourse analysis.
This Webinar will be held on September 21, 2023, at 8:00 AM (PT)
