Welcome to our August newsletter!
We are delighted to announce that the new generation of ATLAS.ti will be released on September 7th! If you purchased ATLAS.ti within the last few months (from the 1st of May, 2020), you will be eligible for a free upgrade to version 9. We will continue publishing new video tutorials, blog articles, and more during this summer so you can see for yourself all of the exciting new features coming in ATLAS.ti 9 Windows and Mac.
We also encourage you to take advantage of these summer months to continue honing your ATLAS.ti and qualitative research skills with the ATLAS.ti Academy by attending our free online webinars and premium self-paced online course. Although we may not be travelling to conferences and vacation destinations as much as we may be used to, we can still make the most of staying safely at home thanks to the great variety of online resources that are available now.
We are also happy to share a new series of blog articles: Our Product Specialist Dr. Susanne Friese has shared another sneak peek of her widely read and cited book "Qualitative Data Analysis with ATLAS.ti," and Certified ATLAS.ti Professional Trainer Dr. Cheah shares his insights and tips on teaching students how to approach the important concept of data saturation in their qualitative data analysis, and he highlights how ATLAS.ti can assist the process of assessing data saturation..
We wish everyone a pleasant and restful summer!

Tips for teaching ATLAS.ti and qualitative research online
Based on the presentation on research technologies given by Dr. Neringa Kalpokaite as well as the recently published article on teaching ATLAS.ti online authored by Dr. Neringa Kalpokaite and Ivana Radivojevic, we wish to share some tips for teaching online. Given the common misconception that CAQDAS software will "do the analysis for you," it is important that CAQDAS is taught along with explanations of how qualitative methodology can inform software use. For example, when teaching coding, it can be very useful to also explain when and why a user may want to code some particular segment. Providing a bibliography of suggested references is helpful for students to further explore and resolve methodological questions. Illustrating how to use the software by applying real-life research examples is also crucial, for which we recommend using a practice project to teach and share with students. A practice project allows students to practice with all the tools in a safe space (where they don't have to worry about doing something "wrong" with their own projects). We also recommend taking advantage of a combination of materials (such as slides, tests, exercises, video classes, etc.) and responding as soon as possible to students' questions. We hope these tips help teachers all around the world adapting to online teaching with this article .

Measuring Intercoder Agreement - Why Cohen's Kappa is not a good choice
After creating the integrated intercoder agreement tool in ATLAS.ti, we have been asked at time about why we do not offer Cohen's kappa as a measurement. You can read about why Cohen's kappa is not a good choice for assessing agreement among multiple coders in our blog article.
Insider look at the process of computer-assisted qualitative data analysis, by the author of the book "Qualitative Data Analysis with ATLAS.ti," Dr. Susanne Friese
Learn to dig deeper into your qualitative research with the newest article of our exclusive sneak peek series with the Dr. Susanne Friese, our Product Specialist and author of "Qualitative Data Analysis with ATLAS.ti." In these series of articles, Dr. Friese shares insights and practical advice on taking advantage of ATLAS.ti to conduct a rigorous qualitative data analysis.
