What are the differences between a student and educational license?

The software is the same in both cases, but the conditions and permitted context of use differ significantly.

A student license permits use of the program exclusively in the context of the license holder’s degree studies. Any other use, including use on behalf of a third party (e.g. in a faculty research project) is *not* permitted under this license type. Also, student licenses expires after six months/two years respectively, or once you no longer have full-time student status–whichever comes first.

Educational licenses are reserved for officially accredited, degree-granting educational institutions and their employees for use in academic teaching and research exclusively.
